Michael Osborn played lead guitar in John Lee Hooker’s Coast to Coast Blues Band for 13 years. After his stint with Mr. Hooker, one of Michael’s songs, “Spellbound,” was featured on John Lee’s 1998 Grammy Award winner for Best Traditional Blues recording, Don’t Look Back. Michael has also backed, recorded with, or played with such musical luminaries as Robben Ford (Michael has a song credit on Robben’s Blue Moon release), Willie Dixon, Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, Elvin Bishop, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Albert Collins, Chris Cain, Robert Cray, Bill Rhoades, Sista Monica, Annie Sampson and many others.
Michael has lived in Portland, Oregon since 2001 (after moving from the Bay Area) and has been nominated three times by the Cascade Blues Association for best blues guitarist and once for best blues recording for his CD release, Touch Tone. As a member of Bill Rhoades and the Party Kings, he taken home 7 awards for best traditional blues band and was inducted into the CBA Hall of Fame as a member of that band.
Michael’s latest release, Hangin’ On, on Checkerboard Records, features the extremely talented vocalist, Karen Lovely and world-class harmonica man, Mitch Kashmar. Touch Tone, released in 2004 and What Goes Around in 2007, are also on the Checkerboard Records label.
Karen Lovely will be joining Mike and his band this year at the Waterfront Blues Festival for a rousing set. Karen has been nominated and awarded numerous times, including 2018 Blues Music Award Nominee “Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist,” 2017 Muddy Award Winner “Best National Recording – Fish Outta Water,” 2016 Muddy Award Winner “Performance of the Year” and 2016 BMA Nominee “Best Contemporary Blues Female Artist.” The band will also feature John Moore on drums, KG Jackson on bass and vocals, Peter Dammann on guitar and Dave Fleschner on keyboard.
